Rio: Sindhu wins semi-finals, assures silver

India’s PV Sindhu defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in the semi-finals of the badminton women’s singles event at the Rio Olympics on Thursday. Sindhu has assured the silver for India. Now she will fight against Spain’s Carolina Marin for the Gold.

Sindhu defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara by 21-19, 21-10. She now has to face Spain’s Carolina Marin, winner over 2012 winner Li Xuerui of China in the other semifinal, for the gold medal.

In the beginning errors from Sindhu allowed Nozomi to take the lead before Sindhu fought back to level for 5-5. As Sindhu won the match there was shower of applauds on her.
