Rishabh Pant Fined Rs 12 Lakh for Breaching IPL Code of Conduct in DC vs CSK Match

The Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been fined Rs 12 lakh for violating the code of conduct in Vizag on Sunday, when his team beat the defending champions Chennai Super Kings.

After his team was found to have maintained a slow over rate against CSK at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Pant will be forced to pay the fine. This is Pant’s first IPL season since 2022.

“As it was his (Pant’s) team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Pant was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” read a statement from IPL.

DC skipper Pant played a prominent role in his team’s first win of the season by scoring a solid half-century to lead DC to a challenging total of 191/5 against CSK.

It was during this period that DC shuffled their batting order after starting the season with back-to-back losses. Prithvi Shaw was given the opportunity to open alongside David Warner, and the pair added 93 runs in the first innings.

DC lost two more wickets in quick succession following Warner’s quick fifty – 51 off 35 – and Pant entered at no. 3. Shaw was soon dismissed on 43 and DC lost two more wickets in quick succession.

Pant went on to score 51 off 32 balls, a score that included four fours and three sixes. Pant was dismissed in the penultimate over of the DC innings.

CSK were reduced to 7/2 in 2.5 overs by the DC bowlers, before the middle order began repairing the damage. However, regular strikes meant the title holders were left with a lot to chase in the final overs.

As for CSK fans, the only comfort they received was witnessing MS Dhoni’s pyrotechnics, as he turned the clock back with an entertaining unbeaten innings of 37 off 16 that included four fours and three sixes.
