Samajwadi Party kickstarted its silver jubilee celebrations in Lucknow on Saturday in the presence of RJD, JD(U), and RLD leaders.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav, RLD chief Ajit Singh, Indian National Lok Dal leader Abhay Chautala and noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani were some of the prominent names present in the silver jubilee celebrations of Samajwadi Party.
“We are in UP to strengthen Samajwadi Party. We have chased away BJP in Bihar. Just like ‘geedad’ (jackal) is chased away, we will chase the BJP away from UP too,” Lalu said.
UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav arrived at the venue and welcomed the leaders along with his uncle Shivpal Yadav.
While speaking at the venue, Shivpal Yadav rules himself out of chief ministerial nomination, but took a dig at Akhilesh, saying “some get power even without working”.
Asked about the possibility for a coalition, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda told media, “We are not in field here. A situation might arise after UP, Gujarat and Punjab polls. We are here to attend silver jubilee celebrations on the invitation of Samajwadi Party.”
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar skipped the event due to chhat puja celebrations.
