SBI Cuts 444-Day Amrit Vrishti FD Rates: The State Bank of India has just lowered the interest rate for its special fixed deposit plan called Amrit Vrishti, which runs for 444 days. The change takes effect from June 15, 2025. While regular fixed deposit rates have stayed the same, this one has been revised downward, and it’s happening just after the Reserve Bank of India cut the repo rate by 50 basis points in its June update. Many big banks like ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, and Canara Bank have also made similar moves.
SBI launched the Amrit Vrishti scheme as a limited-time FD option for people who want to save money for a little over a year. This plan used to give more interest than regular FDs, and many people liked it because it offered slightly higher returns for short-term savings.

What’s Changed for Different Customers
Earlier in general depositors got 6.85% interest per year on the Amrit Vrishti plan. But now, after the latest change, they will earn 6.60% interest yearly. SBI confirmed this on its official site, saying the new rate applies from June 15. This change affects only the 444-day FD. All other fixed deposit schemes have no change right now.
Senior citizens and super senior citizens still get a better deal. If you are 60 years or older, you will now get 7.10% interest. If you’re over 80, then your rate will be a bit higher 7.20%, reports Zee Business. That extra 10 basis points gives older depositors slightly more income on their savings, which is helpful, especially after retirement.
What Happens If You Break It Early
Not everyone keeps their fixed deposit till the end, and SBI knows that. If someone wants to take the money out before the 444 days are over, there will be a small penalty. For deposits up to ₹5 lakh, the bank will cut 0.50% from the interest. If the deposit is more than ₹5 lakh but less than ₹3 crore, the penalty goes up to 1%. Also, if someone tries to break the FD before 7 days, they won’t get any interest at all.
This change in rates might affect how much people earn on their FDs. For example, if someone invests ₹2.5 lakh, ₹4.5 lakh, or ₹6.5 lakh, their final maturity amount will now be slightly lower than before because of the new 6.60% rate. But for senior citizens, the extra interest can still give decent returns, especially if they don’t break the deposit early.
