SBI gives 'WhatsApp warning' to its customers, here's all you need to know

India’s largest public sector bank, the State Bank Of India (SBI) recently warned its customers against cybercriminals who are targeting SBI users on WhatsApp to get their personal information. SBI took to Twitter recently and shared the details of the scam. If you or your family have an account in SBI, here are some important things to know.

Cybercriminals are targetting bank customers through WhatsApp. In the social media post, SBI warned their customers and told them not to respond to cyber criminals on WhatsApp calls and messages if they ask for any personal information.

Customers should avoid answering any WhatsApp calls or respond to WhatsApp messages from unknown numbers as its a trap. These cybercriminals offer gifts and rewards to customers, later they ask them their bank account number and other details by telling them they are calling from SBI. They also ask customers to call on an SBI number which is fake.

Cybercriminals tell customers that sharing personal account details are mandatory to receive the award money. And that the money will be transferred to this account. In the post, SBI also clarified that they are not running any lottery scheme. Nor there are any gift offers being given by the bank. It warns that criminals are using these fake offers to trap customers and dupe them of their money.

Cybercriminals wait for customers to get in the trap by sending them fake messages, so one should never believe forwarded messages. SBI cleared that they or any of its officials ever ask customers for details of their bank accounts or personal information.
