Former athlete PT Usha and Indian opener Virender Sehwag have been named in the committee to pick Khel Ratna and Arjuna awardees, while Pulela Gopichand and Pankaj Advani have been named in committee to pick Dronacharya and Dhyan Chand awardees.
The committee will consist of 12 members and will be headed by Justice CK Thakkar. It is scheduled to meet on August 3 to select the awardees.
The other members of the Mukund Killekar(boxing), Sunil Dabbas(kabaddi), S Kannan(journalist), Sanjeev Kumar(journalist), Latha Madhvi(para athlete), Anil Khanna(sports administrator), Injeti Srivastava(DG SAI), Rajvir Singh(joint secretary, sports ministry) as the other members.
Arjuna awards are the highest national recognition for outstanding contribution to sports and games in Olympics, Asian games, commonwealth games, world cup, world championship disciplines and cricket.
