Shravan month one of the most holiest and auspicious months for Hindus. The month is dedicated to Lord Shiva and her wife Goddess Parvati. This pious month falls during the monsoon. The Shravan period will begin from July 23 and end on August 22 this year.

It is believed that worshipping Lord Shiva during this period brings luck to the family. Shravan is the fifth month of the Hindu calendar. This month generally involves Shravan Somar Vrat where women and girls keep fast on all Mondays of this month. It is also believed that the Somar Vrat is beneficial for unmarried girls as it helps them to marry the man of their choice.

On the rituals front, devotees wake up early in the morning and take bath and visit Lord Shiva temple to offer water or milk to Shiva Lingam. Solah Somvar Vrat Katha or Shravan Vrat Katha is an important element. Somvar Vrat Katha is recited on every Monday of Shravan Vrat. Solah Somvar Vrat Katha portrays the life of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. After the Puja, Prasad is distributed among the friends and family members.

Ghugni:

The dish includes Kala Chana or Gram or Chickpeas tossed with veggies and flavoursome spices. The ingredients required for Ghugni are:

  • One bowl of Kala chana or gram or Chickpeas.

Sabudana Khichdi:

During the fasting season, sabudana khichdi is loved by almost all the devotees as it is healthy and tasty at the same time. This delicious dish is vegan and gluten-free too. The ingredients are as follows:

  • Soaked Sabudana overnight.
  • Veggies as per the requirement.
  • Salt
  • Coriander leaves
  • Spices

Sabudana Kheer:

This is one of the best sweet delights during the fasting month. Sabudana Kheer is super easy to make and is the most relished food recipes. It requires minimal ingredients:

  • Soaked Sabudana.
  • Sugar.
  • Saffron.
  • Cardamom.
  • Dry fruits for garnish.
