India’s rising star Shubman Gill has climbed to the No. 1 spot in the latest ICC ODI batter rankings, dethroning Pakistan’s Babar Azam. The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the updated rankings on Wednesday, confirming Gill’s ascent to the top with 796 rating points, while Babar slipped to second place with 773 points.
Gill’s Rapid Rise in ODI Cricket
Gill’s rise to the top of the rankings has been fueled by his consistent performances in ODIs. Just last week, he had moved up to No. 2 after scoring a match-winning century against England in the recently concluded three-match ODI series, which India swept 3-0.
The young Indian opener has been in red-hot form over the past year, delivering several key knocks across conditions. His ability to dominate attacks with his elegant stroke play has made him a mainstay in India’s batting lineup.
End of Babar Azam’s Long Reign
Babar Azam had held the No. 1 ODI batter ranking for nearly three years, cementing his status as one of the best in modern-day cricket. However, with Pakistan’s limited ODI outings in recent months, the door opened for Gill to take over the top spot.
