Skanda Sashti 2023: Skanda Sashti is a day of good fortune for Tamil Hindus. It is dedicated to Lord Murugan’s worship.
On this day, devotees fast to appease the deity and seek His blessings for a happy and prosperous life.
Every Hindu calendar month’s sixth day of Krishna Paksha is observed as Sashti.
Sashti Rituals:
To please Lord Murugan, devotees observe partial or total fasts.
The fasting begins at sunrise and concludes the following morning after prayers to the Sun God.
By consuming fruits, it is possible to observe a partial fast.
Those with health concerns may observe the fast with one meal per day.
Alcohol and non-vegetarian food consumption are strictly prohibited.
Devotees of Lord Murugan also read the Skanda Purana and recite the Skanda Shasti Kavacham on this day.
Evening visits to Lord Murugan’s temples are considered to be extremely auspicious.
Sashti Significance:
On Shashti, it is believed that a person who prays and fasts will receive the blessings of Lord Murugan.
