Solve Ram Mandir issue through negotiations, says Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Tuesday sought an urgent hearing on the Ram Mandir dispute next week and offered to play a mediator to sort out the controversy after suggesting both groups to try for an amicable solution by talks.

The SC intervention in the matter comes just a few days after controversial BJP leader Yogi Adityanath’s selection as Uttar Pradesh chief minister.

Yogi Adityanath, a hardline Hindutva leader, has been polarising the majority voters in the name of Ram Mandir and triggering hatred against Muslims through his speech.

During the election campaign, Yogi had repeatedly claimed that Ram Mandir will be constructed if BJP comes to power in the state.

The Apex Court has asked lawyer and BJP MP Subramaniam Swamy to mention the matter on or before March 31 after the former sought urgent hearing saying it was a sensitive matter, The Financial Express reported.

The top court also asked the contesting groups to think of ways for an out of court settlement in the case.

The court added that all parties should choose mediators to make a fresh attempt to settle the issue and if required, a principal mediator can be chosen by the court for settling the issue.

BJP, RSS and other Hindutva leaders welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision.

However, the groups opposing the construction of Ram Mandir said that days of negotiations are over and only the court can solve this issue.

Ram Mandir issue has been the saffron party’s election campaign material for the past three decades.
