Paramount Pictures have recently launched the first trailer of upcoming movie ‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ on April 30. The movie is based on Sega’s iconic gaming character and stars Jim Carrey as Sonic’s nemesis Dr Ivo Robotnik.
Sonic has spawned dozen of games, multiple cartoon series, and countless media tie-ins, but this will be his first movie. Besides Jim Carrey, the movie will also feature “Westworld” star James Marsden, and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
The new movie brings the iconic video game character into a real world setting, with a style the filmmakers have compared to Seth MacFarlane’s “Ted.” The character’s design in “Sonic the Hedgehog” is a bit different from what fans are used to. His fur is made of individual hairs, rather than the solid blue color usually seen in the games, and Sonic has a much more human-looking physique, with defined arms and legs.

The movie synopsis reads, “SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.”
There’s plenty of robot-battling action that looks pretty true to the games, and we get a hint that Robotnik will have his classic bald-with-ridiculous ‘tache look at some point in the movie.
Sonic The Hedgehog is set to release in US theaters on November 8, while the India release is not confirmed yet.
