The confirmation of Season 2’s renewal occurred in June 2022, nine months after the premiere. The announcement was accompanied by a letter from the game’s creator, Dong-hyuk, in which he hinted at the upcoming release of additional thrilling titles. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk discussed the arduous task of delving deeply into familiar characters, noting that the first two episodes were meticulously rewritten for six months. There is a possibility that the new season won’t be available on Netflix until 2023, so fans who are anxiously awaiting it may need to curb their enthusiasm.
Lee Jung-jae, who portrays Seong Gi-hun, disclosed that filming for Season 2 of Squid Game will begin in the summer, heightening anticipation. In the meantime, Netflix debuted a reality competition spin-off titled “Squid Game: The Challenge” with a $4.56 million cash reward. The ten-episode series began filming in early 2023 and replicates the challenges from the original program.
Early in 2023, reports of production-related injuries sparked concerns. Netflix clarified that these were mild medical conditions, putting the cast and crew’s health first. The Health and Safety Executive of the United Kingdom evaluated the production and found no substantial issues, but cautioned against potential future risks.
Taking into account the previous production timeline, which spanned approximately 10 months, plus an anticipated six months for post-production and promotion, Season 2 of Squid Game may not arrive on Netflix until 2025.
