Know Sreedhanya Suresh, first Kerala tribal woman to clear UPSC civil services exam

It’s a time of jubilation for Wayanad as Sreedhanya Suresh, a tribal girl from Pozhuthana panchayat, has cracked the prestigious Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission(UPSC). Sreedhanya achieved a national rank of 410.

Sreedhanya who hails from Kurichiya community hopes that her achievement would inspire more students from Wayanad to appear in the examination. “The number of candidates appearing for the civil service exam from Wayanad in general and tribal communities in the district, in particular, is very low. I hope this would urge more people to come forward”, she was quoted as saying by a daily.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinary Vijayan took to Facebook and congratulated the girl from Wayanad on her achievement. Sreedhanya studied at St Joseph’s College Devagiri, Kozhikode before doing a masters from the Calicut University campus. This was her attempt at the tough examination.

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi who will contest Lok Sabha elections from Wayanad besides his constituency of Amethi also congratulated the meritorious student.

Union Public Service Commission(UPSC) has declared the result of Civil Services Examination, 2018 on its official website on Friday, April 5, 2019. Civil Services Exam 2018 mains examination was conducted between September 28 and October 7, 2018. While the interview stage was conducted in the month of February and March.

A UPSC statement said a total of 759 candidates (577 men and 182 women) have been recommended by the Commission for appointment to various central services such as IAS, IPS, IRS and IFS.

“Based on the results of the written part of Civil Services Examination, 2018 held by the Union Public Service Commission in September-October, 2018 and the interviews for Personality Test held in February-March, 2019, following is the list, in order of merit, of candidates who have been recommended for appointment to: (i) Indian Administrative Service, (ii) Indian Foreign Service, (iii) Indian Police Service, (iv) Central Services, Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’,” The official notification reads.
