Sri Lanka’s 15-man squad for ICC World Cup 2019: Karunaratne to lead side, Dinesh Chandimal misses out

Sri Lanka Cricket on Thursday, April 18 announced its 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 to take place in England & Wales between May 30 and June 14. Sri Lanka will begin their World Cup campaign against New Zealand on June 1 at the Cardiff Wales Stadium in Cardiff.

Dimuth Karunaratne has been appointed Sri Lanka’s ODI captain and will lead the team during their campaign in the Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019.

Milinda Siriwardana, Jeffrey Vandersay who last played one-day internationals in October 2017 and Jeevan Mendis who last appeared in the format in the 2015 World Cup match against Afghanistan, have made remarkable comebacks to the Sri Lanka World Cup squad.

However, many of the regulars, including Niroshan Dickwella, Danushka Gunathilaka, Dinesh Chandimal, Upul Tharanga and Akila Dananjaya, were excluded from the squad.

Sri Lanka have placed Oshada Fernando, Angelo Perera, Kasun Rajitha, and Wanindu Hasaranga on stand-by for the World Cup squad selection.
