As repolling takes place in 38 polling stations in Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency where the bypolls on Sunday was disrupted by violence; the voter turnout in the first three hours of voting has been only one per cent. Counting of votes will be held on Saturday and the result would be known the same day.

A very minimal number of only 3444 voters came to cast their votes across all polling stations till 10 AM, where the total number of people eligible to vote is 34,169. Notably, in segments like Budgam, where violence during the previous attempt of poll left many dead and injured and Khansahib, no votes were polled. Only two votes in Chrar-e-Sharief segment were cast.

Security was tightened around the polling booths to ensure safety. Tension due to the separatist’s strike remains prevalent in the valley and prohibitory orders have been issued by the authorities under Section 144 CrPC for maintaining law and order.

South Kashmir Anantnag Parliamentary seat by-poll has been delayed to May 25 by EC due to unrest in the valley. Voting in the constituency was otherwise scheduled for April 12.
