Quantitative Aptitude section has been the most deciding area for a candidate in the merit list of SSC CHSL Tier-1 Exam. Therefore, if one has clear cut basic concepts and formulas of Mathematics, then this section can become one’s strength area in the exam. Let’s segregate the Quantitative Aptitude Chapters into three  varied levels, i.e., Easy, Moderate and Difficult.

Easy Level Quantitative Aptitude Topics

It is always easy to start with easier topics. Such topics are chosen that increase your calculation speed. Attaining proficiency in these topics helps you to achieve a high score in this section as these questions can be easy solved. Let’s look at these topics one by one:

  1. Simplification – Questions on BODMAS Rule, Fractions, Surds and Indices, Square roots, etc come in exams.
  2. Percentage – Question to calculate the percentage of a given number mentally without using pen & paper are expected.
  3. Average – Question of basics and fast calculation are expected.
  4. Ratio and Proportion – Questions on the basic and advanced levels are expected.
  5. Problems on Ages – Question on this topic are common every year. Try to solve the basic problems first and then move on to the complex problems.
  6. Number Series –  Question from this topic also comes every year. In this category, try to understand the pattern of number series which can be of any form like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, square, etc.
  7. Number System –  Question from this topic comes every year based on some concepts like LCM & HCF, Irrational or Rational Numbers, etc.

 Moderate Level Quantitative Aptitude Topics

These topics require little more effort than the easy topics. Let’s look at each topic one-by-one:

  1. Time, Speed and Distance – Questions like these are in a form of complex situations that can be only solved by applying the formulas.  Problems on Boats & Streams and Trains are an integral part of this chapter.
  2. Profit and Loss – Questions on basic formulas and concepts of Discount and Partnership form the outline of this chapter
  3. Simple Interest and Compound Interest – Questions coming from this topic come every year are based on the theory of interest. One has to learn the formulae of both Simple Interest and Compound Interest.
  4. Time and Work – One or two questions come from this topic every year based on the basic concepts of Time & Work, Pipes & Cistern and Work & Efficiency.
  5. Mixture & Alligation – Questions from this topic are mostly asked in conjunction with basic concepts of Ratio and Proportion.
  6. Data Interpretation – The concept of Ratio & Proportion and Percentages are used in the Data Interpretation questions which come in the form of Bar Graphs, Pie Charts, Tables, etc.

Difficult Level Quantitative Aptitude Topics

This section in general requires a lot of effort by the students and demands rigorous practice. These topics can be difficult for everyone, therefore, achieving expertise in these topics will make you stand ahead in the competition. Let’s look at these topic one-by-one:

  1. Algebra – Questions from this topic were based on the concepts of Linear Equations in one or two variables.
  2. Geometry – Geometry is one of the most important chapters that needs to be covered. A major chunk of it occurs in the Quantitative Aptitude section in SSC Exams. One has to have all the theorems and solved problems related to triangle congruence, circle, chords & tangent, etc on their minds.
  3. Mensuration – Questions from this section generally include the shapes and their formulas while. One need to remember formulae of Square, Rectangle, Circle, Cone, Cylinder, etc.
  4. Trigonometry – The best way to understand  this topic is by mugging up all the Trigonometric Identities and formulas to solve the questions.
