Schools for Class 10, 12 in Bihar to reopen from Jan 4

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) class 10th results have been finally announced for many students who were anxiously waiting for the result from the last two months. However, the board result of class 10th has brought bad news to the state ’s leading school, Simultala Awasiya Vidyalay (SAV), which has been in the top 10 for the past five years.

This year, there were no students in the top 5 and only 3 students out of 41 in the top 10. This is a huge fall in the establishment of the institution set up in 2010 to fill the void of Netarhat Vidyalay who went to Jharkhand after bifurcation of Bihar.

In the 10th board examination held for the first time in 2015, 19 students of Simultala Awasiya Vidyalay (SAV) achieved a score of more than 96%, which is the highest record since the establishment of the Bihar Board in 1952, and 70 students secured a score of 90% to 96%.

A dream project of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, its students bagged the top 108 positions in 2016.  In 2019, its 16 students ranked in the top 10, with a total of 18 students. This year, SAV students ranked 7, 8, and 10 positions only.

The institution had struggled due to a series of problems and also had to skip two meetings 2013-14 & 2014-15. After chief minister, Nitish Kumar expressed dissatisfaction with its function, it conducted test for class 7 and 8, along with entrance level class 6 in 2017.

SAV principal Rajiv Ranjan said, “We were never expecting such results in class 10 board. Nothing has changed in the school, but the results have taken a sudden dip this year.”

Ranjan said the performance will be thoroughly reviewed, and since no one wants to believe, students certainly want to apply for review.

He added, “the shock is big and it will take time to absorb. We know the students. In Class 12, there could be variation as many students study outside at different places, but in class 10, it is difficult.”
