Demand for postponement of SSC CGL Mains exam arose, students launched a campaign on Twitter amid rising Covid cases and travel restrictions

Staff Selection Commission conducts the CGL i.e. Combined Graduate Level Examination every year. Graduates apply for the CGL exam. The CGL mains exam is to be held on January 28 and 29.

Many candidates are not ready for this exam amidst increasing cases of corona in the country. They fear that they may get infected with Corona.

There are also many candidates who are infected with Corona. In such a situation, a huge number of candidates are demanding to postpone this examination.

The students made calls and emails to the Staff Selection Commission office but did not get any response.

Students are tweeting today with the hashtag #Postpone_cgl_mains2020 to get their demand fulfilled.

A candidate named Tania tweeted and wrote, “Humble request to SSC, please conduct CGL Main exam after the graph of COVID starts declining. Every life matters.”

Deepak Chaudhary, who hails from Rajasthan wrote, “I am a SSC CGL aspirant who has cleared the pre exam with 150 marks. I just took the CHSL exam on 9th January after which I started having symptoms of COVID from which I have recovered recently. Due to the increasing cases of corona and decreasing means of transport, giving the CGL Mains paper is quite frightening and disturbing. There is also a fear of coming in contact with small children in the house. The commission is requested to make the trouble of postponing the examination only for some time.

Amid this campaign people are also taking fun out of it by sharing some memes related to exams.

Meenal, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, says, “My name is Meenal, I had scored 148 in CGL Pre. I live in nalkheda district agar malwa and i got my exam center bhopal which is 200 kms away from my home. Corona cases are increasing continuously in Madhya Pradesh. Lakhs of students will have to travel by public transport to appear for the exam, which can worsen the situation. If I get infected then my family will also be at risk. I am also putting my family’s life in danger. Please postpone the exam.

Yogesh Kaushik from Uttar Pradesh says, “My CGL Tier 2 exam is on 28th and 29th January. Corona cases are increasing continuously and it is being said that by the end of January, corona cases will be at their peak, still 2.5 lakh cases are coming daily. Our exam centers are also 500-600 kms away. Almost all the exams for the month of January have been postponed, so the CGL exam should also be postponed. I have 174 marks in Tier 1 so if I get corona then I will not be able to give CGL Tier 3 exam which is on 6th February and all my hard work will be wasted. Our only demand is that this exam should be postponed for the time being.

What does the Staff Selection Commission have to say:

We spoke to a senior official of the Staff Selection Commission. He said “Corona cases are decreasing in Delhi and Maharashtra. Apart from CGL, many exams are also being held. So we have no chance for postponement of the exam. The exam will be held on time only.
