‘Super Deluxe’ Review: A film that delves deeper into darker side of human mind

The opening of the film ‘Super Deluxe’ will remind you of Kumararaja’s earlier work in Aaranya Kaandam and his effortless screenplay that he has portrayed in both of his films. The only difference between the two of the film is that in the earlier one, women were treated as flesh but in this one, a woman feels pleasure.

The effortless screenplay yet again explains every detail in the corner of the room and more or less ‘Super Deluxe’ is a successor of the earlier film Aaranya Kaandam.

Aaranya Kaandam portrayed male impotency while Super Deluxe is based on sexual fantasies and that is also the darker side of a human mind.

The overly layered film starts as a black comedy and ends like a drama on life, sex, and spirituality. The film explains the concept of how humans derive their own boundaries and lead them in the most exploitative way. It also makes us question chaos theory and how meaningless life can be at times.

The story is based on An unfaithful newly-wed wife, an estranged father, a priest and an angry son suddenly find themselves in the most unexpected predicaments, each poised to experience their destiny, all on one fateful day. It is about four stories that are interwoven into one. Mugil (Fahadh Faasil) and Vaembu (Samantha Akkineni) are in a marriage of convenience. Something terrible yet insanely-funny incident happens to them and that triggers a series of unwarranted events. Chappai and Subbu (from Aaranya Kaandam) had they lived together. Elsewhere, a motley group of sex-deprived teenagers visits a CD shop to satisfy their quest for bittu padam.

In the film, you will see a most honest portrayal of a transgender in the form of Shilpa (Vijay Sethupathi) and Rasukutty. The audience can totally connect with them, their emotions and pain. There are quite bold performances in the film that will make you hooked up till the end and the unique storyline is a must mention of the film.

Also, the film has some humorous moments that are being drawn from the unlikeliest places. Overall the film stands out on the grounds of a totally different storyline, characters, and screenplay.
