In a significant verdict, the Supreme Court has permitted a 13-year-old rape survivor to terminate her 31-week-old pregnancy on Wednesday. Notably, the SC had denied permission to a 10-year-old rape survivor to end her 32-week pregnancy in July.
The Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra stated that considering the age of the petitioner and the trauma she had faced, the SC allows her to end her pregnancy.
It was survivor’s mother who had approached the apex court for the same. The mother sought permission to terminate the unwanted pregnancy.
The verdict had come after the court examined the medical report of the survivor. The reports noted that the abortion will not be good for the health of the survivor.
