Teal Talk Day 2023: On September 23, Teal Talk Day is observed to elevate women’s awareness of ovarian cancer. Each year, approximately 249,000 people are diagnosed with ovarian cancer worldwide. On this day, everyone is encouraged to congregate with their peers, dress in teal, and spend the day conversing. Teal Talk Day aims to inform women about the dangers of ovarian cancer and the significance of testing. In contrast, Teal Talk should take place every day of the year, not just on this one day.

The history behind Teal Talk Day

Teal Talk Day was established by Ovarcome, an ovarian cancer foundation, to raise awareness of ovarian cancer and encourage people to discuss it. As there is presently no screening available, Ovarcome wants you to be informed and empowered about your symptoms. You possess the power to save a life!

On February 23, 2012, Ovarcome was incorporated as a business. By initiating this national and international initiative in 2017, Ovarcome commemorated five years of service to the ovarian cancer community. Cancer of the ovary is a disease of isolation, but Ovarcome urges you to SPEAK UP! Women and their families can combat the condition without a screening test through education and awareness. This information and increased awareness is provided by Teal Talk Day.

Jane Todd Crawford is the first individual who has been documented as having an ovarian tumor removed. She has a tumor weighing 22 pounds removed from her abdomen. The discovery of carboplatin, a chemotherapeutic agent that has become the standard treatment for ovarian cancer, occurs. Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA) is established as the world’s foremost organization for ovarian cancer research. The Ovarcome ovarian cancer foundation has designated Teal Talk Day.

Five essential ovarian cancer facts

  • When these cells multiply uncontrollably, they invade the ovaries and produce malignant tumors.
  • Having a family history of ovarian, breast, or colorectal cancer is an additional risk factor. About half of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer are at least 63 years old.
  • According to research, women who have had a full-term pregnancy during their prime reproductive years and who use birth control medications are at a lower risk; breastfeeding may also lower the risk.
  • If your tests suggest that you may have ovarian cancer, you will need a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. Your doctor will remove a small portion of the abnormality during the biopsy to ascertain whether or not you have cancer.
  • Sometimes, high levels of the CA-125 protein, as measured by the CA-125 Blood Test, are indicative of ovarian diseases, such as cancer.
