Social media and online content platforms aren’t just a means of communication or entertainment, but serious career option for some content creators. Internet offers many options for earning revenue and content creation is emerging as a major field for many Indians. YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat and some local social media networks are helping talented content creators and influencers to generate a decent income.

The trend has picked up in tier-II and tier-III cities across India with many people having millions of followers on YouTube, Instagram and other networks. Tik-Tok had managed to grab a major market share in short video segment but the application was banned by Indian government due to its Chinese connection. While Tik-Tok remains banned in India, there are many other social media platforms and apps that have gained traction.

As per a story published in Fortune India, many of the influencers and content creators are from small cities. They have created a dedicated fan-following by using their talent and having a persistent approach to make a career online. In the start, it is really difficult to gain followers on these networks but once a content creator reaches a critical mass, the snowballing effect helps him grow further.

Social media entrepreneur Ranveer Allahbadia has managed to generate dedicated audience on YouTube and he also runs an exclusive podcast on Spotify. Content creator Kusha Kapila has over two million followers on Instagram and she offers fresh and entertaining, short videos. Fitness instructor Sahil Khan has over 10 million followers on Instagram. Finance expert Neha Nagar has over one million followers on social media. There are many such successful social media entrepreneurs who love what they do and they make good money.

Some prominent female journalists like Barkha Dutt, Faye D’Souza and Arfa Khanum Sherwani have also managed to create big name in the world of social media. Their insightful reports have helped them create an online community.

Content creators make money by sharing advertising revenues on the social media platforms. These earnings are usually based on the traffic quality and the number of views their videos receive. In addition to advertising income, content creators also make money by endorsing brands and sharing product reviews on their feed.

Many brands have partnered with popular content creators in order to improve their brand awareness. The advertiser base includes health & fitness companies, FMCG companies, beauty product manufacturers, sports betting & online gaming platforms, financial services majors, sports goods and apparel manufacturers. Online gaming platforms have been focusing on Indian bettors and they have roped in many influencers to market their platforms. There are many platforms that cater to Indian consumers and before opening an account, bettors should check an up to date ranking of the best betting sites, in order to make an informed decision. Due diligence is needed before making any investment decision.

With almost one billion active users in India, the online networks will continue on growth path. Indian market is expected to register strong viewership numbers and advertising revenue will follow. While many people would think that it is too late to enter the world of content creation, online media experts and advertising professionals feel that there is always space for new talent. If someone has the talent and inspiration to work hard, a dedicated online community and fan-following can be created even today.
