Hyderabad 23rd February 2014: SMT Padmini Reddy wife of Deputy CM Damodar Rajanarasimhan adressing the media at journalists colony on Sunday

In a major political development on Thursday in Hyderabad, Padmini Reddy, wife of senior Congress leader Damodar Raja Narsimha, who joined BJP in the afternoon, returned back to Congress on the same day, as her supporters were feeling hurt after the decision.

The political drama started on Thursday morning, as news came Padmini Reddy will join BJP in the afternoon and it happened also. Reddy met Telangana BJP president K Laxman at the state headquarters and formally became a member of the saffron party. However, equations changed in the evening, as reports came Reddy’s supporters are not happy with the decision.  After quitting BJP in the evening, Padmini told media, “I am taking my decision back. I have understood the feelings of the Congress party workers. I am now back to the Congress party’.”

Further, BJP responded on the decision and BJP chief spokesperson Krishna Rao said “Padmini Reddy is an educated and well-informed woman. BJP is a party which respects and believes in women empowerment. When she approached the BJP to join and work for the party, certainly we couldn’t have asked her, to get her husband’s permission for the same. We respect Reddy’s decision either way.”

Damodar Raja, husband of Padmini is the in-charge of the election manifesto committee of Telangana Congress and had also served as deputy chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh. Padmini’s decision to join also created an embarrassment for state Congress.
