Government revises GDP growth rate from 6.7 per cent to 7.2 per cent for 2017-18

The government on Thursday revised the GDP growth rate for the year 2017-18 from 6.7 per cent to 7.2 per cent. GDP growth according to Provisional Estimate stood at 6.7 per cent but First Revised Estimate shows to be at 7.2 per cent.

The government will release Second Advance Estimates for the latest session, 2018-2019 on February 28. Read more

India’s unemployment rate soars to 45-year high in 2017-18

India’s unemployment rate touches a 45 year high with 6.1 percent during 2017-2018, according to NSSO’s (National Sample Survey Office) periodic labour force survey(PLFS) report cited by Business Standard.

The data report which has not been released to public yet, comes a day after the National Statistical Commission dived into a controversy when two of National Statistical Commission members which included the acting chairman resigned. Read more

Bihar: HC reserves verdict on Nitish Kumar in 1991 killing case

After the hearings took place in the petition submitted by Chief Minister of Bihar and Janata Dal (United) party chief Nitish Kumar regarding the Sitaram Singh killing case, the High Court reserved the decision.

The case traces back to 1991’s killing in which Nitish Kumar’s petition was quashed. Kumar is accused of killing a man while returning after voting in the 1991 LokSabha bypoll elections in Barh Lok Sabha constituency in Patna district. Read more

Bihar: Case filed against Shashi Tharoor for hurting religious sentiments

A  case has been registered against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor before Patna Chief Magistrate for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. A hearing in the case will take place on Friday. Read more
