Tripura chief minister, Manik Sarkar, received death threats on social networking site, Facebook. The post read that the user called for the CM to be beheaded and offered Rs 5.5 lakh for the crime. An FIR has been filed and the state police are investigating the matter.

The FIR was lodged at the West Agartala Police Station by Subrata Chakrabarty, a local resident, who said he saw the post on his Facebook timeline posted by an account holder named Ria Roy. Police said that Chakrabarty suspected a racket behind the act.

They are trying to trace the account-holder.

“Tripura police is looking into the matter. The case may be forwarded to CID,” said HK Debbarma, superintendent of police.

Recently, All India Radio and Doordarshan refused to air Sarkar’s Independence day speech. However, the channels have denied the charges. Sarkar has been the chief minister of Tripura for 19 years.
