At least eight people were killed and 10 other people were injured Monday in a truck bomb attack on a police checkpoint in al-Arish, a city in northern Sinai in Egypt, medical and security sources told media.
Three policemen and three civilians were reportedly among those injured.
According to the AP news agency, the suicide bomber used a garbage truck packed with explosives into the checkpoint and gunmen then opened fire on the security post on Monday.
No group has immediately claimed the responsibility of the attack.
The officials quoted by the AP news agency said that the garbage truck had been stolen days earlier from the municipality of el-Arish.
The Sinai Peninsula borders Israel and Palestine’s Gaza Strip.
