Spanish football players Alvaro Morata and Rodri have been given one-match bans following their conduct at a Euro 2024 presentation in Madrid, according to UEFA.
The players chanted ‘Gibraltar is Spanish’ during a celebration event on July 15, post their 2-1 European Championship final win against England. Gibraltar, a British territory, is located at the southern tip of Spain.
UEFA stated the punishment pertains to failure to adhere to the general principles of conduct, violation of basic rules of decent conduct, misuse of sporting events for non-sporting manifestations, and bringing football into disrepute. The bans will apply to the next UEFA international match for which the players are eligible.
