Professor M Jagadesh Kumar, chairman of the UGC, reportedly told Times Now, “The establishment of the UGC India WhatsApp Channel represents a substantial stride in the promotion of a more inclusive and knowledgeable higher education environment.”

“The University Grants Commission is modernising its communication strategy and empowering stakeholders to access real-time information on higher education through the adoption of technology and a widely-used platform,” he further elaborated. This endeavor sets an example for the utilization of digital instruments to enhance the efficacy, transparency, and accessibility of educational governance.

The commission stated in a statement regarding inclusivity that the WhatsApp Channel is an effective tool for reaching a broader audience due to the recognition that not all individuals may have convenient access to the websites or social media accounts of the University Grants Commission (UGC). This endeavor ensures universal access to policy updates on higher education in a nation as diversified and connectivity-unreliable as India, thereby closing the digital divide.
