Understanding the Repeat Parameter on Midjourney

Understanding the Repeat Parameter on Midjourney: Using the Repeat parameter, you can process the same prompt on Midjourney multiple times.

To generate multiple image grids, append the –repeat value> parameter to the end of your command prompt and replace value> with a whole number between 2 and 40 based on the number of tasks you wish to process.
Using the Repeat parameter, you can construct a maximum of 4, 10, and 40 image grids on the Midjourney Basic, Standard, and Pro plans, respectively.

What is Midjourney’s Repeat parameter?

Repeat enables you to create multiple iterations of images with the same description using a single prompt shared with the AI tool. When this parameter is used, Midjourney processes multiple image generations based on the same query, allowing you to experiment and compare the output side-by-side.

This can be beneficial if you wish to investigate diverse outputs in order to gain inspiration from a variety of ideas. The Repeat parameter is a simplified version of Permutation prompts that can be used to generate multiple jobs with subtly different prompt descriptions. Contrary to permutations, the Repeat parameter only generates different images from the same prompt.

Since all general image generation results in a four-image grid, the Repeat parameter allows you to create n x 4 images, where n is the value you designate to this parameter. If you enter a value of 3 for the Repeat parameter, Midjourney will generate 3 x 4 = 12 images.

We will also explain when and why you might want to utilise this feature. While Repeat only re-rolls the same prompt to the Midjourney Bot multiple times, the prompt’s processing results in a greater variety of images.

The parameter spares you the time required to re-enter the same prompt if you are unhappy with the initial grid or have been dealt a poor set of images for a single task. By utilising Repeat, you have a greater chance of obtaining a desired image that you may wish to enlarge or edit, sparing you the time and effort required to create the ideal prompt.

How many tasks can you perform concurrently using Repeat?

The Repeat or –repeat parameter allows you to create multiple tasks from the same description in a single prompt, allowing you to create multiple image grids from a single prompt. However, the number of repetitions is limited by the Midjourney subscription you have purchased. Consequently, if you are subscribed to:

Midjourney Basic – Using a single input prompt, you can create up to four tasks. This account type’s Repeat parameter will allow a value between 2 and 4 for Midjourney.
Midjourney Standard – Using a single input prompt, you can create up to ten tasks. This account type accepts values between 2 and 10 for the Repeat parameter of Midjourney.
Midjourney Pro enables the creation of up to forty tasks with a single input prompt. This account type’s Repeat parameter accepts values ranging between 2 and 40.

If you specify a value for the Repeat parameter that exceeds your account’s maximum limit, you will receive the Job action restricted warning, which specifies the maximum number of jobs that can be created using your Midjourney account.

How to apply the Repeat parameter to multiple iterations of a task

The Repeat parameter can be appended to any Midjourney command that involves image grid creation. To use this parameter, you must ensure that your account is presently in Fast More or Turbo mode. Repeat cannot be used in Relax Mode, so you must transition to one of the other two models before you can use it in a prompt.

To activate the Repeat parameter, use one of the following syntaxes: /visualisation prompt description> –repeat value> or /imagine description> prompt The –r value> option. You can replace the value> field with any value between 2 and 40, depending on your account’s utmost job limit.

To begin utilising the Repeat parameter, visit one of Midjourney’s Discord servers or access the Midjourney Bot via a Discord server or direct message. Regardless of how you reach it, click on the text box at the bottom.

Here, enter /imagine and select /imagine from the resulting menu.

Now, input the desired image description in the “prompt” box and add the –repeat value> parameter at the end.

Replace value> with a number between 2 and 40, based on the number of tasks you wish to execute from the same prompt. You must ensure that the value you enter here does not exceed the maximum job limit that has been specified for your Midjourney account. For example, the maximum limit for the Midjourney Basic account is 4, so you must input a value between 2 and 4 for the repeat parameter in order to successfully process the prompt.

Press the Enter key on your keyboard when your prompt is complete.

The Midjourney Bot will then display a confirmation message before proceeding. To continue processing, please select Yes from this response.

After you validate the Midjourney Bot’s processing request, it will begin simultaneously generating multiple image grids based on the prompt. Depending on the available GPUs, all image grids may begin processing simultaneously or one by one; therefore, it will take a bit longer than usual to see all of your generations.

Multiple image grids of 4 images per assignment will now be generated by Midjourney. You will see the specified number of image grids from Midjourney, as specified by the Repeat parameter.

You can use the upscale and vary options below the image grid to obtain the desired image on Midjourney, or you can repeat the creations with the same prompt and Repeat parameter to obtain multiple sets of images.

How to generate additional random-looking images using the Repeat parameter in Midjourney

Even though the Repeat parameter can help you generate multiple sets of diverse images from your prompt, there is a method to significantly increase the diversity of the images generated by Midjourney. Use the Chaos parameter in conjunction with the Repeat parameter to speed up exploration and obtain more diverse results. This will cause Midjourney to generate image grids that are marginally or significantly distinct from previous generations.

In case you were unaware, the Chaos parameter determines how diverse your image grids appear in comparison to the original set of images Midjourney generated in response to the same prompt. You can set your desired chaos value to any number between 0 and 100 to specify how dissimilar your subsequent set of images will appear relative to the original image grid.

Thus, when you combine the Repeat and Chaos parameters, Midjourney will generate unique images with unexpected compositions for each task, increasing your chances of finding an appropriate image.

You can combine the Repeat parameter with Chaos by entering /imagine prompt.

–continue value 1> –disorder value 2> Replace value 1> with any number between 2 and 40 to set the Repeat parameter, and any number between 0 and 100 to set the Chaos parameter.

To begin using the Repeat and Chaos parameters, activate one of Midjourney’s Discord servers or access the Midjourney Bot via a Discord server or direct message. Regardless of how you reach it, click on the text box at the bottom.

Here, enter /imagine and select /imagine from the resulting menu.

Now, input your desired image description in the “Prompt” box, followed by the –repeat value 1> and –chaos value 2> parameters.

Replace value 1> with a number between 2 and 40, based on the number of tasks you wish to execute using the same prompt. You must ensure that the value you enter here does not exceed the maximum job limit that has been specified for your Midjourney account.

Similarly, you must replace value 2> with any number between 0 and 100 to set your desired chaos value, and this number will determine the degree to which the initial image grids differ from the subsequent set of images.

Once Midjourney has processed your prompt, multiple image grids containing four images per task will be generated. You will see the specified number of image grids from Midjourney, as specified by the Repeat parameter. Depending on the value you designate to the Chaos parameter, the generated image grids will contain images that are strikingly distinct from one another.

You can use the upscale and vary options below the image grid to obtain the desired image on Midjourney, or you can replicate the creations using the same prompt and varying chaos values to obtain various results.

What is NOT permitted with Repeat on Midjourney?

The Repeat parameter can be used to generate multiple images from a single prompt, but there are restrictions to consider when using this parameter with Midjourney.

First, the utmost number of image grids that can be generated with –repeat depends on your Midjourney subscription type. Using the Repeat parameter, you can construct a maximum of 4, 10, and 40 image grids on the Midjourney Basic, Standard, and Pro plans, respectively.
In Relax Mode, the Repeat parameter cannot be executed. You must deplete GPU minutes from your Midjourney account via Fast Mode or Turbo Mode in order to use this tool.
When using the Chaos parameter with –repeat, you can only designate a single chaos value to the input, so the level of variation across all image grids will remain constant. To utilise an alternative chaos value, you must re-enter the prompt for each new set of image grids.
When using the Re-roll icon on a result generated with the Repeat parameter, Midjourney will only rerun the prompt once, resulting in a single image grid.

That is all you need to know about utilising the Repeat parameter to execute multiple job repetitions with Midjourney.
