Although summer’s warmth is alluring, an insidious threat to our well-being lurks behind it. This climatic shift not only creates discomfort, but also poses grave health risks.

During such meteorological extremes, it is imperative to protect one’s health.

During the sweltering months, heat-related illnesses loom ominously. Dehydration is a major concern during these hot months.

Insufficient water in the body leads to a multitude of health complications, including heart attacks, which can be fatal.

Due to the intensity of heat waves, this danger is exacerbated, causing symptoms such as lethargy, weakness, and even fainting spells. Thus, preventing heatstroke is imperative to maintaining our health.

Heatstroke can be prevented by following certain precautionary measures:

  • In order to prevent heat-related illnesses, it is important to maintain optimal hydration levels. Drinking water regularly at intervals of no more than two hours is the best way to do this.
  • Ensure you’re hydrated despite the relentless onslaught of the sun’s rays by carrying a portable water reservoir when venturing outdoors.
  • Sun protection is imperative. Wearing sunglasses and head coverings protects one from the deleterious effects of ultraviolet radiation.
  • Adding water-rich fruits to one’s diet, such as watermelon and muskmelon, promotes hydration while strengthening the body’s defenses against heat-induced diseases.

It is important to note, however, that summer’s menace extends beyond heatstroke, manifesting in a rise in three specific diseases:

1. Food Poisoning:

Summer’s balmy embrace increases gastrointestinal disturbances, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

High temperatures hasten the spoilage of foods, contributing to these afflictions, commonly associated with food poisoning.

This risk can be mitigated by avoiding prolonged food storage and exercising caution when consuming street food.

2. Typhoid:

Typhoid fever resurgence is exacerbated by the sweltering months, particularly among children and vulnerable demographics.

Symptoms of this illness range from pyrexia to cephalalgia to gastrointestinal distress to profound fatigue, often transmitted via tainted food and water.

Street food and stale provisions must be avoided conscientiously in order to prevent the transmission of typhoid.

3. Ocular Infections:

Summer’s scorching rays threaten ocular health, predisposing individuals to the dangers of ocular infections. Prolonged exposure to the sun poses a heightened risk for such diseases.

Additionally, periodic irrigation of ocular orbs with cold water serves as a salutary measure in maintaining ocular health during the inclement vagaries of summer.
