UP: Elderly woman walks 50kms to bank in hope of govt help amid lockdown, returns empty hand

The most difficulties faced in the lockdown are by those who are elderly poor and helpless. Help in this hour of crisis is the only source for them. In order to seek help, an elderly woman walked 50 km to reach bank, but she went there only to find out that government help had not come to her account.

72-year-old Radha, a village Himmatpur resident of Thana Pakchhara in Firozabad, is staying at Rambagh in Agra and is doing wages. The money kept with them has also been exhausted due to closure of work amid the lockdown.

After the government announced puting Rs 500 in the Jan Dhan account, the woman walked at night to withdraw 500 rupees from the bank account from Rambagh in Agra, irrespective of hunger and thirst.

On a 50-kilometre walk, she reached the State Bank branch at Pakchhara in Tourdla on Saturday morning. She showed her account and the bankers, after checking the account, the bank said that money has not come to her account.

Upon learning that, she became depressed. The elderly woman said that neither she is getting the pension nor is there any ration card. When she did not received Rs 500 from the bank, the depressed woman returned to Agra on foot without by help.
