Maharashtra: Upset over denial of ticket, Congress MLA takes away 300 chairs from party office

Aurangabad: Abdul Sattar, Congress MLA from Sillod, upset over not getting the ticket to contest Lok Sabha elections took away 300 chairs from the local party office in Central Maharashtra with the aid of his supporters.

The local unit of the grand old party had scheduled a meeting with ally NCP in its Shahgunj locality office, “Gandhi Bhawan”. Ahead of the meeting, the Congress lawmaker with the help of his supporters removed about 300 chairs from the party office. The meeting later took place at the NCP office.

Mr Sattar was hoping to get the ticket to contest from the Aurangabad Lok Sabha seat, but the party instead fielded MLC Subash Zhambad from the seat.

“Yes the chairs were mine and we were providing them for Congress meetings. Now I have left the party so took my chairs back. Those who got the candidature should make arrangements for the campaign,” Mr Sattar was quoted as saying by the PTI.

Mr Zhambad, the Congress hope for the Aurangabad Lok Sabha seat said, “Sattar might be in need of chairs so he took them away. We are not disappointed. Sattar is still in the Congress as his resignation has not been accepted yet.”
