Congress Central Election Committee announces Urmila Matondkar’s name as the candidate for the Mumbai North Constituency for the upcoming elections to the Lok Sabha on Friday.

The development comes two days after the Bollywood fame joined the grand old party.

Talking to media persons, she had said on Wednesday that there were questions pertaining to freedom of people under the Narendra Modi government. “I have entered politics to articulate those questions,” she said. She had also praised Rahul Gandhi saying a leader should judge people by their qualities and not their background.

Incidentally, Mumbai North, after Mumbai North-West (now Mumbai North-Central) represented by actor-turned-politician Sunil Dutt five times since 1984, is the second Lok Sabha constituency in the country’s commercial capital which has elected a well-known film personality.

The elections in Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency will take place in the fourth phase of elections on April 29 along with other constituencies in the state, namely, Nandurbar, Dhule, Dindori, Nashik, Palghar, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Thane, Mumbai North-West, Mumbai North-East, Mumbai North-Central, Mumbai South-Central
