Uttarakhand Heavy rain alert: All schools in Almora district will stay closed on September 1, 2025, after the weather office warned of very heavy rains. The government gave an order on Sunday that every school from Class 1 to 12 and even Anganwadi centers must not open on Monday. Officials said this decision comes to keep children safe as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) gave a clear alert about strong rainfall in many parts of Uttarakhand.

Weather warning across many districts
The IMD office in Dehradun released the forecast on August 31 at 1 pm. In that forecast they said there is a big chance of “heavy to very heavy rains accompanied by lightning” in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar.
The government order also explained that “according to the forecast, due to heavy rainfall, various types of disasters such as landslides, flash floods, boulder falls, waterlogging, and road closure etc. can occur.”
Schools and Anganwadis told to remain closed
The state decided to give one day holiday in Almora. The order said, “In order to prevent any untoward incident, it has been decided to declare a one-day holiday on 01st September 2025 in all government, semi-government and private schools (all educational institutions running from class 1 to 12) and all Anganwadi centers of the district.”

The Chief Education Officer of Almora has been told to pass this message to all schools and centers so that no child has to come out in this dangerous weather.

September 1, 2025, is not a national holiday, but many states in India have closed schools because of heavy rain, landslides, and safety issues. Parents and students should check official notices before going to school on Monday.
