Vaibhav Suryavanshi India’s Asia Cup: A new bizz around India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad came after former India cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth made a bold demand. He wants 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi to be part of the team that flies to UAE next month.
The young boy from Bihar became a sensation in this year’s IPL after smashing a hundred for Rajasthan Royals. He not only became the youngest to get an IPL contract but also the youngest player ever to hit a century in the league at just 14 years old. His hundred came against Gujarat Titans, and he ended his debut season with another fifty to his name. In total, he scored 252 runs in seven matches, striking at more than 200. He then carried his hot form into India U-19’s tour of England, where he made another century and helped his side clinch the series, Mint reports.

Srikkanth calls him ready
Srikkanth feels India should not wait to give Vaibhav a chance, especially since Sanju Samson’s fitness is still in doubt after his IPL injury. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth said, “You have to play bold. Don’t make him wait. Don’t say things like ‘let him mature’. He is already playing with remarkable maturity. His shot-making has been on another level. If I were chairman, I would definitely have him in the squad.”
The 1983 World Cup winner added that his first-choice opener would be Abhishek Sharma, but he would also carry Suryavanshi and Sai Sudharsan as strong options for the second opener spot. “My first-choice opener is Abhishek Sharma, no doubt. I will have two more openers. My picks would be Vaibhav Suryavanshi or Sai Sudharsan, with Shubman Gill as an option. If I were a selector, I would keep Vaibhav in the 15 for the T20 World Cup. He has been outstanding,” he explained.
Srikkanth even went a step further by saying, “I think it should be Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and Sai Sudharsan. I would take two out of these three. That would be my preference.”
