Varanasi Court Viral Video: A dramatic scene unfolded inside a district court in Varanasi on Friday when a woman allegedly entered the courtroom, occupied the district judge’s chair and declared herself the presiding judge for the day. The whole episode, which was caught on video went viral and sparked an immediate debate about security arrangements at the courtroom.

As per witnesses, on being noticed sitting on the district judge’s chair, the woman who gained unauthorized entry into the district judge’s courtroom when proceedings were not underway started yelling ‘Order, Order!’ and began ordering lawyers to place evidence and witnesses before her, mimicking the entire court procedure. The woman kept hitting the chair and repeating, ‘Order, Order!… I am the District Judge today. Place the witnesses and evidence before me!’

In the video footage recorded by people inside the courtroom, the woman occupied the judges seat while court officials made several requests for her to move from the chair. This led to confusion and brief disruption in court procedures.
Woman Identified as Vandana Gupta
Local media identified the woman as Vandana Gupta, resident of Shivpur, Varanasi and around 50 years old. Officials claimed that the woman refused to move from the chair even after being coaxed by court employees and lawyers several times. Media sources added that Vandana Gupta has previously appeared in Varanasi’s family court in a number of case and that she had faced some emotional setbacks in recent past and had also acted unusually earlier while visiting court. However, court officials have confirmed nothing regarding the mental status of Vandana Gupta. The woman also began shuffling through files in the court room and continued acting as the presiding officer.
Police Response
Finally, after the employees of the court failed to persuade the woman to move from the seat of the district judge, the police were called upon and an hour long drama was finally concluded when a few personnel from the district court premises removed the woman from the judicial seat and took her into their custody. It is being ascertained as to who is responsible for letting her in unrestricted access to the courtroom and if there were any security loopholes.
