Veteran actress Jameela Malik, known for her critically acclaimed roles in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu movies, besides TV serials, passed away in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.

73-years-old Malik had been living with her son Ansar Malik at her residence at Palode. She had been suffering from health ailments since quite a while.

Jameela Malik, a trailblazer, was the first woman from Kerala to enter the famous Pune’s Film and Television Institute as an acting student.

She later worked with film maestros and matinee idols yet settled for the low-profile life of a hostel matron. Her first movie to be released was K S Sethumadhavan’s ‘Adyathe Katha.

During the 70s, she straddled Tamil and Malayalam languages doing various roles and occasionally dubbed for movies, but her career never took off as a breakthrough role evaded her. She had also been cast in television serials. She was part of Mazhavil Manorama’s popular serial Mangalyapattu.
