Video: Kanhaiya Kumar visits JMI campus, expresses support to students

Kanhaiya brought the JNU narrative of stressing the importance of having freedom of speech and expression for students. He states police should provide young students with the necessary space to protest.

Kanhaiya Kumar on Wednesday visited the Jamia Milia Islamia campus to express his solidarity with the protesting students. He chanted slogans in favor of Jamia students who were attacked inside the hostel allegedly by Delhi Police on December, 15.

It happened in the wake of the citizenship amendment bill protests that have rocked many parts of the nation. Kanhaiya brought the JNU narrative of stressing the importance of having freedom of speech and expression for students. He states police should provide young students with the necessary space to protest.

Many prominent universities from both India and abroad stood in support of Jamia Milia Islamia expressing their solidarity and support. They stressed the necessary issue of enabling protest to happen in campuses without hindrance. Many cited the importance of basic fundamental rights that offer freedom of expression as written in the constitution of India.

The event caused a halt in the daily movement of traffic,  as well as the closing of some metro stations in nearby areas. As many as 13 metro stations had been closed for considerable hours by DMRC through a series of tweets. These stations were- GTB Nagar, Shivaji Stadium, Patel Chowk, Viswavidyalaya, Vasant Vihar, Munirka, RK Puram Metro stations.
