People are strongly condemning a BJP councillor after the video of him dumping the Indian national flag on a roadside went viral. In the video, Hasmukh Patel in Vadodara was seen throwing the national flag near a pole.
Patel was seen getting inside his XUV car after he threw the tricolour on the street.
Patel’s act has evoked angry reactions in light of his party, the BJP’s attempts to spread nationalism in India. Of late, the Uttar Pradesh government had issued a diktat making it mandatory for madrassas to unfurl the national flag and even film the event as a proof of their patriotism on Independence day.
Some BJP functionaries have been embarrassed by the act. They are now demanding an action against Patel. Insulting the national symbols is a criminal offence under Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.
BJP has lately begun a tiranga yatra drive, claiming that it will instill patriotism in the citizens of the country.
