Weather Forecast Updates: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh through today, August 24, and over Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Northeast India over the next two days.

In addition, the weather service has forecasted subdued precipitation over southern Peninsular India for the next 5-6 days and over central India beginning today for the next 4-5 days.

As reported by ANI, the IMD has issued a red alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh over the next two days. Constant precipitation has triggered mudslides, cloudbursts, and flash flooding, causing extensive damage in the state. The mountainous state has been designated as a “natural disaster-affected area.”

In the past 24 hours, eight persons were killed in Uttar Pradesh due to rain-related incidents, state officials told PTI. According to a statement issued by the Relief Commissioner, two people drowned in Farrukhabad, one person perished of a snake bite in Gonda and Ghazipur, and one person was killed by lightning in Farrukhabad and Aligarh.

According to the Irrigation Department, the Ganga was also flowing above the danger mark in Budaun, Kanpur, and Farrukhabad. In Lakhimpur Kheri, the Sharda river is also flowing close to the danger level.

The Marathwada region of Maharashtra has not seen rain for 50 of the 82 monsoon days so far, according to a report released by the divisional commissioner’s office on Wednesday and reported by PTI.

According to the report, as of August 21, the expected rainfall in the region comprised of the districts of Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed, Hingoli, Osmanabad, Latur, and Nanded was 451.1 mm, while the actual rainfall in the region was 364.9 mm, a 19.1 percent deficit. Considering that the average annual precipitation for Marathwada is 679.5 millimetres, the region has received 53.7 percent of its annual precipitation through August 21.

North India:

Isolated heavy precipitation is probable over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh from the 23rd to the 25th; over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and northeast Rajasthan on August 23, 2023.

Isolated very heavy precipitation is also possible over East Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from August 23 to 24.

East India:

Isolated heavy rainfall is probable over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Bihar from the 23rd to the 26th, and over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha from the 23rd to the 25th of August, 2023.

Very heavy rainfall is also possible over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Bihar from August 23 to 25.

Isolated very heavy precipitation is likely over Bihar on August 24, 2023

Northeast region

Isolated torrential rainfall is likely during the next four days across the region.

Very heavy precipitation is also possible over Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh from August 23-26, 2023.
