West Bengal: BJP vice president Rajkamal Pathak resigns from post over candidate list

Rajkamal was reportedly seeking ticket from Hooghly constituency

Kolkata: Rajkumala Pathak, BJP vice-president resigned from the post of state over the candidate list that was announced on Thursday. According to reports, following the publication of the candidate list, Pathak decided to take the extreme step and has sent the letter to West Bengal state BJP President Dilip Ghosh informing him of the same.

BJP on Thursday had announced the list of 182 candidates which including 27 from the West Bengal constituencies, a state which sends 42 MPs to the Lok Sabha.

According to the reports, Rajkamal was seeking to contest from the Hooghly constituency, BJP ticket of which went to LK Chatterjee.

West Bengal is one of the three states where elections are slated to take place in all the seven phases. In the first phase of elections that is to happen on April 11, from West Bengal Coochbehar and Alipurduars will undergo polls.

The Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora announced the schedule for the Lok Sabha election on March 10 at a press conference at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. Election Commission of India had announced that the general elections will begin on April 11, with the last phase taking place on May 19, the counting of votes is slated to take place on May 23.

More than 900 million people above the age of 18 are expected to cast their ballots at a million polling stations. Of the total electorate, 15 million will be in the age group of 18 to 19 years.
