WhatsApp appears to be unavailable for a number of users. Many Twitter users have reported problems, users are also unable to use the messaging app. At the time of writing, users could open the app but not send messages or media files. Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, has yet to address the issue.

DownDetector, an outage detection website, confirms that WhatsApp is down for thousands of users. According to the website’s heat map, affected regions include major cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Lucknow, but we fear the outage is affecting users everywhere.

WhatsApp has yet to issue an official statement on the matter, but we should know more soon. Stay tuned for more information.

There have been numerous reports on social media of users being unable to send or receive messages via WhatsApp. The official WhatsApp Status account, on the other hand, has yet to confirm any outage and has been inactive since 2014. The Down Detector has a large spike indicating that problems began around 8am BST, with the inability to send messages denoted by the appearance of a clock icon next to any pending message and the Linked Devices function not working properly.

This does prevent users from contacting friends and family across iOS and Android, as one of the world’s largest cross-platform messaging platforms on mobile. Mobile and desktop applications appear to load and function normally, but you will encounter problems when attempting to send messages, media, location pins, voice notes, and other documentation.
