The screenshot, first spotted by WABetaInfo, reveals that the screen-sharing feature will receive a dedicated button in the bottom row, next to the camera flip and video on/off controls. If a WhatsApp user wishes to share their screen during a video call, they will be prompted with the following message: “Everything on your screen, including notifications, will be documented. Enable Do Not Disturb in order to prevent unwelcome Notifications.”
While the feature is undoubtedly useful, it poses a privacy risk by displaying notifications while users are sharing their screens. FaceTime from Apple prevents notifications from appearing when screen-sharing is enabled. When the feature is published to the public, we hope WhatsApp fixes this and hides the notifications.
When releasing the feature in its Android beta app, WhatsApp stated that it will have access to all data displayed on the device’s interface or played from the device when recording or casting. This includes passwords, payment information, photographs, messages, and audio played during screen sharing.”
Additionally, everyone must have the most recent version of the iOS or Android beta app for the feature to function. Screen-sharing may not function during large group calls or if the recipient is using an older app version.
