Bobi Kinnar, the leader of the AAP and the only transgender candidate to run for office in the MCD Elections 2022, was victorious in his bid to represent the Sultanpuri-A ward. According to the announcement made by the State Election Commission today, Bobi won the race against the Congress candidate Varuna Dhaka by a margin of 6,714 votes. It was the first time in the history of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) that a transgender person ran for office. Bobi, who is running for election in the Sultanpuri-A ward, which is riddled with open drains and potholes, has stated that she will prioritise the area’s cleanliness and its aesthetic improvement if she is elected.

In spite of being affectionately known as “Bobi darling” by the people who live in Sultanpur Majra, the leader of the AAP did not have an easy time in her pursuit of political representation.

Who is Bobi Kinnar?

Bobi was raised in the Sultanpur neighbourhood where he was born. Bobi experienced both bullying and harassment throughout her childhood, both at school and in her local community. The woman, who is 38 years old, was quoted as saying in Indian Express that she has been subjected to insults throughout her life; however, this has not prevented her from dreaming that transgender people such as herself will one day receive value and respect in society.

After the passing of her father, Bobi’s mother took in a younger sibling and herself and raised the three of them by taking odd jobs. Bobi maintains contact with her mother. Once a month, she visits her mother and spends time with her.
