All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Thursday afternoon announced the names of 12 more candidates for Lok Sabha elections from Madhya Pradesh.

As such there were no surprises in the list however, one name that did took us away a little is Prahlad Singh Tipaniya

Prahlad Tipanya is one of the most compelling folk voices of Kabir in India today, who combines singing and explanation of Kabir bhajans in the Malwi folk style from Madhya Pradesh. Prahladji combines a powerful singing style with a magnetic ability to communicate with his audiences. His concerts are more than entertaining music.

Born on September 7, 1954 in a Malwi Balai cast family in Madhya Pradesh’s Tarana, Prahlad has been honoured with several awards including Padma Shri award in 2011.

Prahlad has visited to several countries including UK, The United States, Pakistan to perform under different ‘Yatras’ named as “Amerika Me Kabir Yatra” and “Had-Anhad”. He performs along with a group of tambura, khartal, manjira, dholak, harmonium, timki, and violin players. His music has been played on All India Radio stations in Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Patna, Lucknowand Kanpur and also featured on Doordarshan.

Prahlad has also performed at the annual Sufi music festival, Ruhaniyat and also countless Kabir festivals. He also runs a program named “Sadguru Kabir Shodh Sansthan”

Tipanya has been part of three documentary films made by Shabnam Virmani, an Indian documentary film maker under a project called “Ajab Sahar- The Kabir Project”.

The new list announced on Thursday has named Kamal Nath’s son Nakul Nath from Chhindwara, former Union minister Arun Yadav from Khandwa, former leader of opposition Ajay Singh from Sidhi and Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha from Jabalpur.
