The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) management confirmed the news which ended months of speculation about the legendary wicketkeeper-batter’s retirement from the tournament.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that Dhoni will remain part of the squad for IPL 2026 and is expected to be available throughout the season. The team management will decide his exact role for the tournament which includes options of being a regular player and wicketkeeper and finisher and mentor-like figure.

“He will play all the matches, according to me.” When asked about the role he’s likely to takeup in the tournament, he added, “That I cannot say. That is a cricketing decision which will be taken by the cricketing staff. Not by the administrative staff. So they will decide whether he is going to play as a batsman or as a wicketkeeper-batter, or as an impact player.”

Recently, Dhoni himself spoke about his future during an event. “Well, it depends. Again, I would say the same thing — I have four or five months to decide. There’s no hurry to decide what is to be done. I’m not saying I’m done, I’m not saying I’m coming back at the same time,” he said.
