World Health Day 2026: Every year on April 7, people around the world mark World Health Day. This date is important because it connects to the World Health Organization, also called WHO. WHO says World Health Day is held every year on 7 April, and the day comes from the founding period of the organisation in 1948. Over time, this day has become a way to make people think about health and the big problems that affect lives across the world.
In 2026, WHO is using the theme “Together for health. Stand with science.” WHO says this is not just a one-day message. It is the start of a year-long campaign. The campaign is meant to celebrate how science and countries working together can protect people and save lives. WHO also says the idea is bigger than human health alone and includes animals, plants, ecosystems, and the planet too.

The Big Idea This Year: One Health
At the center of this year’s message is something called One Health. WHO explains One Health as a way of looking at health that connects humans, animals, plants, and the environment. In simple words, it means people cannot stay healthy if the world around them is sick. If animals get diseases, people can get them too. If water is dirty, people suffer. If the climate changes, diseases can spread in new places. WHO says science-led work through the One Health approach is important for “the health of all – not only humans, but also animals, plants, ecosystems and the entire planet”.
That is why WHO wants people to stand with facts and trust science. The campaign asks ordinary people too, not just leaders and scientists, to support science-based health choices.
WHO says the public can also join in online and share how science has helped their own lives by using hashtags like #StandWithScience and #WorldHealthDay. The message is clear. Good science is not far away from normal life. It helps doctors treat people, helps stop disease, and helps countries prepare for health threats.

Big Events Around the 2026 Campaign
This year’s World Health Day also comes with major international events. WHO says the campaign is tied to the International One Health Summit in Lyon, France, taking place from 5 to 7 April 2026 under the French G7 Presidency.
WHO also says the Global Forum of WHO Collaborating Centres is being held from 7 to 9 April. Scientific institutions from more than 80 countries are part of it, making it one of the biggest science networks ever gathered around a United Nations agency. These meetings are meant to turn research and evidence into real action.
