WTT Contender Rio 2023: WTT Contender Rio 2023 is the eighth Contender tournament on the 2023 WTT calendar. The tournament will commence on August 7, 2023, and the finals will be held on August 13, 2023. The total prize purse for the tournament is $75,000, with each singles champion receiving $5,000. Each victor of the doubles competition will receive $1000.
This is one of only two Contender events that will be contested in Latin America during the 2023 WTT calendar year. The other tournament was the recently concluded WTT Contender Lima 2023, which took place in Lima, Peru.
Five Indian athletes will compete in Rio de Janeiro, with two of them (Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Harmeet Desai) competing in both the singles and doubles competitions. In addition to partnering in the men’s doubles event, the two will vie for the top prize in the men’s singles competition. No Indians have been granted direct entry into the main event, and they must compete in the qualifying rounds, which commence on August 7.
