UP: 20 ministers in Yogi Adityanath govt with criminal charges

Out of the 47 ministers in the Yogi Adityanath government, 20 ministers faces criminal charges against them, including the chief minister itself, according to UP Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) analysis of the self-sworn affidavits of the ministers.

“Out of the 44 ministers, 35 (80 per cent) are crorepatis. The average assets of 44 ministers is Rs 5.34 crore,” Delhi-based ADR said in a report.

The charges against the ministers included robbery, theft, forgery and voluntarily causing hurt.

Chief Minister Adityanath has total assets worth over Rs 71 lakh, while deputy CM Keshav Prasad has total assets of over Rs 9 crore, the report added.

Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi from Allahabad South constituency is the wealthiest minister in the UP Assembly with assets worth Rs 57.11 crore.

Priest turned politician Yogi Adityanath had a bunch of criminal cases against him. Some of them are: charges related to rioting (IPC Section-147); 1 charge related to Attempt to murder (IPC Section-307); 2 charges related to Rioting, armed with deadly weapon (IPC Section-148); 1 charges related to Act endangering life or personal safety of others (IPC Section-336); 1 charge related to Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object (IPC Section-149); 2 charges related to Trespassing on burial places, etc. (IPC Section-297); 1 charge related to criminal intimidation (IPC Section-506).

Similarly, two ministers in Punjab also had criminal charges against them. Out of the ten ministers in the Captain Amarinder Singh government, nine are crorepatis.

Amarinder Singh has total assets worth over Rs 48 crore.
