26/11 Anniversary: Recalling the horrors of 2008 Mumbai attacks!

The fatal attack of 26/11 in Mumbai left a deep scar on the heart of every citizen. Occurred in 2008, the Mumbai attack was a series of attacks, executed by 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba – an Islamic militant organisation, based in Pakistan.

The terrorists together carried out the series of coordinated attacks in different parts of tinsel town for four days. Here, we are recalling the horrific Mumbai attacks that just not shook India but the entire world!

On November 26, 2008, ten terrorists entered Mumbai by a sea route and opened fire aimlessly at people. The attack that began on Wednesday (November 26) lasted until Saturday (November 29) in 2008.

Along with Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the Oberoi Trident, the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower, Leopold Cafe, Cama Hospital, the Nariman House and Jewish community centre were some of the popular places attacked by the terrorists.

The fierce attacks killed 166, including 18 security personnel with injuring several others.

The 2008 Mumbai attack was one of the lethal attacks in the world and drew extensive global condemnation.

Apart from killing a large number of people, it also damaged properties worth crores.

Many of the officials including the then ATS chief Hemant Karkare, Army major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, Mumbai’s additional police commissioner Ashok Kamte and senior police inspector Vijay Salaskar were among those killed in the terror attack.

Terrorist Ajmal Kasab was the only terrorist captured alive by the officials. The terrorist was hanged four years later on November 21, 2012.
